about

"I would like to dedicate this recording to the memory of my teacher Carlos Garnett, whom passed away on March 3, 2023. I was in Vancouver when I received the news and it was quite painful, but the closeness to nature and the beauty of Vancouvers vast sites and serenity brought peace to my soul, also I was there to share music with the world, which is what Carlos and I shared the most. Mi maestro Carlos, Rest in Power, UNLIMITED CREATIVE IMAGINATION por siempre".

from Adrián Avendaño:

It's very interesting how things play out. A few months before this concert, I was biking home from the record store after a long day of work, and I ran into my dear friend. We stopped and chatted at Strathcona Linear Park, hanging out on the benches there and catching up. I showed them what I picked up that day; Miles Davis' - On the Corner; Susie Ibarra & Tashi Dorji's - Master of Time; accompanied by Aquiles Navarro & Tcheser Holmes' - Heritage of the Invisible II. Little did I know that in a short time later, Aquiles and his crew from Irreversible Entanglements (also alongside the incredible Karen Ng and Jasper Stadhouders) would be in Vancouver performing and facilitating workshops here. I knew I had to be there. At the end of one of the workshops, Aquiles invited me to join him on the gig. I was humbled, honored and incredibly excited.

As more of the concerts and workshops passed, the band got bigger, organically through playful conversation. It was a foretelling of what then happened on that stage at Tyrant Studios. The intense listening, telepathic interaction, creating an immersive soundscape with huge dynamism. With it being the first time that we all have played together, it felt like we have been playing a very long time, connected at the seams. I think that is the power of trust, the power of vulnerability, and the power of surrender to the moment, that we all exemplified.

I want to give immense gratitude and thanks to Lisa Miller for doing such an incredible job in facilitating such profound learning opportunities for musicians, and of course, for her exquisite performance that evening . This concert would not have happened without her and all the folks at the NOW Society doing that amazing work. I want to thank Andromeda Monk for being such an amazing collaborator and friend, I'm so glad that we got to share that moment together. The creative seed planted that day continues to grow inside of us. Finally and certainly not least, I want to thank Aquiles for sharing his wonderful spirit and energy to all of us here on the the traditional, stolen territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Peoples. I am forever changed and still feel so full from this concert and all the moments leading up to it. Thanks for paving the way and setting an example for Latinx artists around the world to shine and thrive!

Hope you all enjoy the ride just like we did!
